“I want to play a game…a game that I think you may like,” he said.
“What game is that?” she asked.
“Chess…it’s something that I do in my past time, but I don’t know if you know how to play the game, besides, I’d just win anyway…or maybe I’d let you win,” he said.
“I know how to play the game Sir but why would you let me win. Treat me as you do every opponent,” she said.
He thought for a moment before speaking again. He thought about how he couldn’t treat her like any other opponent because for him, in that moment, she was a little more than that, but he wasn’t about to put his vulnerability on the line.
“Hmm…we can talk about that part another time. I’ll help you set up your game tomorrow when I have some free time,” he said.
“Okay, that’s fine,” she replied.
This entire conversation was easy, it felt so genuine, and real. He wanted to say more but thought better of it. He didn’t want to scare her away from him as he’d come so close. He wasn’t thinking about anything or anyone but her during their conversations and he had hoped she felt the same. He wouldn’t dare ask though as he was too shy or better yet, he was too proud. Nah, he wasn’t too proud, but he had to protect his feelings.
He watched her a few times in the past but never thought much of it but when she went away for good, he realized that something was missing and maybe it was her or maybe he “thought” it was her. The mind could play tricks on a person. Maybe he had just started to recognize her through a different lens and the view was amazing…made him have special visions…and those visions were something he didn’t mind holding onto.
The last time she came by, he missed her by a few hours, and it was the most detrimental moment as he wasn’t sure when he’d see her again. He wasn’t in love, but he was definitely in like very much. He wished he could turn back the hands of time to change a few things and she would have been one that he would have never forgotten nor ignored. Sometimes he wondered what she thought about him and sometimes he thought he could tell by their conversations, but she was difficult to read. She had her guards up as he did too and rightfully so.
When he sent her videos that lasted a brief five to ten minutes, he realized he couldn’t look directly into the camera lens as his eyes would tell her everything, and he wasn’t sure he wanted her to know. Some part of him wanted her to know but the other part was hesitant. He wondered if she recognized that about his videos, but he did enjoy sending them to her and maybe one day he would have the courage to ask her what she thought about them.
He checked his watch and realized he was late for his evening workout. He wished she was close by to workout with him…or better yet, so he could watch her workout from afar. He closed his eyes for a moment to think and had to get his mind together. He changed into his workout gear, grabbed his car keys, cell phone, and headed out the door and to the gym. He had to clear his mind or else thoughts of her would be too great and he wanted and needed to maintain control. He knew she would send him a message later and he looked forward to it and he definitely looked forward to their game of chess. Maybe he would let her win or maybe he’d take control and have her become the only opponent that he wished was his Queen.
